Curtis Peery, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a highly experienced board-certified bariatric surgeon. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
In 2004, Dr. Peery was trained in the daVinci Robotic Surgical System and has been a leader in his field since. By 2015 he was a total practice robotic surgeon, using the surgical robot in all surgeries, reducing recovery time and creating better overall outcomes for his patients.
He is also a consultant for cutting edge medical device companies, Boehringer Labs and Intuitive Surgical. Dr. Peery has led many courses and trained hundreds of surgeons in robotic surgery. In addition to leading courses, he also speaks and proctors for Intuitive Surgical.
Dr. Peery meets with every patient individually. After reviewing their medical history, he and the patient decide together which surgery is best for them. Dr. Peery is extremely friendly and empathetic, and is committed to each patient’s success.
Dr. Peery attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of South Dakota. During medical school he was elected to Omega Alpha Omega Honor society and graduated summa cum laude. He completed general surgery residency at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Upon completion of his residency, he was asked to stay on the faculty of general surgery as the Assistant Program Director of Curriculum.
Dr. Peery entered practice in 2003 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Since, he has served on faculty at USD Sanford School of Medicine as a Clinical Professor and Attending for the General Surgical Program. He served as the Director of Bariatric Surgery for Sanford USD Medical Center and also the lead of the Robotic Steering Committee and has been awarded two patents. He has published several papers, a book chapter about robotic duodenal switch, and an editorial on robotic splenectomy.
Dr. Peery was born and raised in South Dakota, though his parents are Texas natives. He has 5 children and one grandchild. Dr. Peery spends his free time traveling, watching the activities his children are involved in, riding his motorcycle, and hunting.
