Dr. Bradshaw’s Approach to Your Care

If you have spent years trying to lose weight on your own, you already know how hard it is. Dr. Ashley Bradshaw wants you to know that you are not out of options. She is a fellowship-trained bariatric, foregut, and general surgeon at The Bariatric Experts™, caring for patients across Frisco, Abilene, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Dr. Bradshaw treats bariatric surgery as the beginning of a long partnership, not a single appointment. She walks you through the anatomy, the options, and the trade-offs so that the decision is genuinely yours. She built her previous program’s education materials because she believes patients who understand their surgery stay engaged in their results.

She also takes the practical barriers seriously. Her work on the ASMBS Insurance Committee comes from watching patients get stuck on coverage instead of care.

What Sets Dr. Bradshaw Apart

She is fellowship trained in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. Her fellowship year focused specifically on bariatric, foregut, and advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures.

She has built a bariatric program, not just worked in one. Dr. Bradshaw established a comprehensive bariatric and metabolic surgery program in an underserved region of Texas. She developed every operative pathway, every multidisciplinary workflow, and the program’s patient education materials.

She led a program to Center of Excellence readiness. As MBSAQIP Director, she ran quality meetings, coordinated across hospital departments, and completed all requirements for MBSAQIP Center of Excellence designation within the first year.

She serves on two national ASMBS committees. In 2025, Dr. Bradshaw was appointed to the Insurance Committee and the Public Education Committee of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The insurance work matters for patients directly, because coverage is one of the biggest barriers people face.

She is trained in both robotic and laparoscopic techniques. Dr. Bradshaw completed advanced robotic bariatrics training on the Da Vinci Xi platform in 2023.

Bariatric Procedures Dr. Bradshaw Performs

Dr. Bradshaw performs a range of bariatric procedures at The Bariatric Experts. During your consultation, Dr. Bradshaw will review your health history, your goals, and your options with you. Obesity is a chronic disease, and surgery is one tool that can help you manage it for the long term.

Gastric Sleeve

Gastric Sleeve is the most commonly performed bariatric procedure in the country. It removes about 80% of the stomach, which limits how much you can eat and reduces hunger signals. It is not reversible. Dr. Bradshaw performs Gastric Sleeve using both laparoscopic and robotic techniques.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass is considered the gold standard for patients with severe obesity or significant metabolic conditions. It works especially well for patients who also struggle with reflux. It is not reversible.

Duodenal Switch

Duodenal Switch combines a sleeve-style stomach with a rerouting of the small intestine. This limits how much you eat and how many calories your body absorbs. It typically produces the most weight loss of any bariatric procedure. It is often considered for patients with a very high BMI or type 2 diabetes. Because it changes absorption, lifelong vitamin supplements and follow-up are essential.

SADI-S

SADI-S (single anastomosis duodeno-ileal switch) is a simplified version of the Duodenal Switch. It pairs a sleeve-style stomach with a single connection to the lower small intestine. Using one connection instead of two can shorten surgery and reduce some risks. SADI-S is a strong option for patients with a high BMI or metabolic conditions. It can also serve as a second step for patients who have already had a Gastric Sleeve.

One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass

One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) creates a long, narrow stomach pouch connected to the small intestine at a single point. It offers weight loss and metabolic benefits similar to traditional Gastric Bypass with one less connection. Dr. Bradshaw will talk with you about whether OAGB fits your health history, including any history of reflux.

Bariatric Revision Surgery

If you have already had bariatric surgery and it did not get you where you wanted to go, Dr. Bradshaw can help. Revision surgery is a focus of her fellowship training. She performs revisions for weight regain, mechanical problems, and results that fell short. Revision requires detailed knowledge of anatomy that has already been changed, which is why fellowship training matters here.

Lap Band Removal

Many patients with a Lap Band experience slippage, reflux, or weight regain over time. Dr. Bradshaw can remove the band and talk with you about what comes next.

Additional Bariatric Procedures

Dr. Bradshaw is also trained in Duodenal Switch, SADI-S (single anastomosis duodeno-ileal switch), and One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass.

Education and Training

Dr. Bradshaw trained in Fort Worth, so this region is familiar ground. She completed her general surgery residency at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth, where she served as administrative chief resident. She then completed a bariatric and advanced minimally invasive surgery fellowship through the University of Texas Houston MIST program at the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas.

Before joining our team, Dr. Bradshaw built an entire bariatric and metabolic surgery program from the ground up. She wrote the operative pathways, the nutrition education, and the patient education manual herself. That experience shapes how she works with you: she wants you to understand your options before you decide anything.

Patients describe Dr. Bradshaw as warm, patient, and easy to talk to. She takes time to listen to your story, including what you have already tried and what has not worked. She answers questions in plain language and never rushes a conversation. Many patients come to her feeling judged by past experiences with weight loss. Dr. Bradshaw offers a different experience, built on respect and honest guidance. She stays by your side from your first visit through recovery and the years that follow.

She has presented grand rounds on bariatric surgery, surgical training, and trauma care.

She also wrote a full patient education guide for bariatric surgery patients, most recently updated in November 2025. Patient education is not an afterthought for her. It is where she starts.
